Form I-9

What is Employment Eligibility Verification?

Form I-9 is used by employers to verify both the identity of employees as well as their employment eligibility. This form is required for each hired individual in the U.S. whether a U.S. citizen or not since the 1980s. The I-9 form, completed by the hired employee and an authorized representative of the company, will be retained for a designated period of time by the employer in case of an inspection by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

When completing an I-9 form, an employee must confirm his/her employment authorization and present the employer with acceptable documents verifying their identity and authorization to work. The employer must assess the identity and employment eligibility documents presented to ensure the documents are genuine and verify the information provided on the I-9 form by the employee. For further information on the I-9 form, please visit: https://www.uscis.gov/i-9.
